Update from LPL Financial – All Systems are Operational and Data is Current
All LPL systems, including Account View, are fully operational, and all data reflected in Account View is current as of Friday’s market close. LPL technology teams worked diligently throughout the day on Friday and continued testing and validation over the weekend to ensure the integrity and functionality of systems.
What happened?
A faulty software update from a third-party vendor, CrowdStrike, caused a widespread technology outage early Friday morning. This impacted businesses and organizations that relied on Microsoft Windows systems, including airlines, banks, hospitals, and government agencies. CrowdStrike acknowledged the issue, apologized for the inconvenience, and quickly released a fix. However, it took some time for things to get back to normal for many companies.
For LPL, normal overnight data processing activities were delayed due to the outage and systems required a reboot, which took time.
It is important to note that Friday’s global outage was caused by a software update error and was not a data security event. There is no indication that any LPL systems data was compromised or accessed. We will continue to closely monitor our systems for any issues to ensure security and stability.
Is the issue solved?
CrowdStrike, the vendor linked to the global outage, has resolved the underlying issue. This was not a security event, but rather a failed software update by a third-party vendor.
Account View is fully restored and Account values and positions, including cost basis, are accurately displayed and updated to reflect as of Friday’s market close.
Was my data compromised?
Because this was a third-party software error and not a security event, there is no indication that any LPL systems or data were compromised or accessed. We will continue to closely monitor our systems for any issues to ensure security and stability.
